Review: Divergent

Divergent (Divergent Series) by Veronica Roth
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I am not a big fan of first person books in general. This book falls in that category. The writing is limited and stunted. I do not enjoy the style at all. The story line and plot are decent and that is the only reason I finished the book. I think the basic premise of the post-war world with factions is interesting in a way. To think people would allow themselves to be divided like that may seem far fetched to us, but yet there are societies with classes already. Even Americans talk about lower-class, middle-class, and upper-class. The only difference is we divide ourselves by money and they divide themselves by personality, and of course, we are not always able to choose our class. Most of us are forced into it by our birth. One thing I did not enjoy was the depiction of yet another hardened female role. It saddens me to think that any young women out there would really act or feel like e main character in this book.
